Western Sydney Airport, NSW, AUS
Trailblazer of the Sky

Sydney's newest airport pays homage to its namesake - Nancy-Bird Walton
Western Sydney Airport (otherwise known as Nancy-Bird Walton Airport) wanted to respectfully celebrate the life of one of Australia's greatest aviation heroes. Spread across three locations, Play9 Studios developed a narrative that frames each stage of Nancy-Bird Walton's life.
Central Pier - 'A Dream of Flight': Born a bird without wings, Nancy becomes Australia's youngest female pilot, taking to the skies across an Australian landscape, with an interactive Play9 Twinkle Tree™ and Whoosh™ creating a compact space for small kids.
West Pier - 'Angel of the Outback': Celebrating Nancy's iconic Gipsy Moth and her role in the founding the Flying Doctors with a bespoke rope play retro plane wing, Kidszone Corner™ and Cloud Twinkle Poles™.
East Pier - 'Future of Flight': An ambitious interactive Plane Fuselage™, Kaleidoscope Turbine™, Cloud Twinkle Poles™ and Kidszone screens™ highlights Nancy's impact in the modern age, establishing the Australian Women's Pilots' Association. .
With uniquely designed, gamified and fact based wall graphics as backdrops and a host of content from our Play9 Library, these spaces give parents and kids a place to relax and engage in spaces that celebrate an individual and a shared love of flight.
